Shaping the Future of Work Through Projects

A personal note on this journey

I didn’t set out to write a series of books.
I started by trying to understand why so many capable leaders and organizations struggle to deliver projects and transformations that truly matter.

Each book reflects a stage in that journey.
I began with focus — why organizations try to do too much at once.
From there, my attention shifted to projects as the real vehicles of strategy, change, and transformation.
Over time, it became clear that most transformation efforts don’t fail because of ambition or intent, but because projects are treated as temporary work in organizations designed for stability.

My most recent work brings these ideas together into a single conclusion:
Projects and transformation are no longer exceptions to the business—they are the business.

This reading path isn’t meant to be followed strictly.
It’s a guide to help you start where your transformation or execution challenge is today — and go deeper if you choose.

Powered by Projects

Powered by Projects: Leading Your Organization in the Transformation Age (2026)

Have you ever wondered why most organizations struggle to deliver strategic change despite enormous investment?

In Powered by Projects, I argue that today’s world has moved beyond agile — we now live in the Project-Driven Organization era where every value-creating endeavor is a project. Building on insights from the HBR Project Management Handbook, this book presents a bold new operating model and leadership blueprint that help leaders shift from managing work to leading a project-centric enterprise. It’s a manifesto for transformation in a world where change is constant and execution is the real competitive advantage.

HBR Book

Harvard Business Review Project Management Handbook (2021)

Why do so many well-intentioned projects still fail to deliver value?

This comprehensive guide was written to close the persistent gap between project intent and outcomes. Drawing on real cases and practical tools, it shows leaders and practitioners how to manage projects — and portfolios — with clarity and purpose. It introduces the Project Canvas, a universal framework for any type of initiative, and reframes success around benefits, engagement, and strategic alignment. Compared with conventional PM literature, this is the first handbook to speak equally to executives and practitioners in plain, actionable language.

Strategy implementation Playbook

Strategy Implementation Playbook (2022)

What happens when strategy execution falters in your organization — and why does it matter so much?

I wrote this book to answer that question by giving leaders a playbook-style guide to embed strategic priorities into everyday decisions and accountability systems. Moving beyond project execution basics, this book tackles the “how” of implementation: metrics, governance, incentives, change management, and leadership behaviours. It marks a shift from project mechanics to organizational discipline, helping leaders turn strategic intent into measurable outcomes.

project revolution

The Project Revolution (2019)

Is traditional project management fit for today’s rapid-change economy?

The Project Revolution explores how projects — not functions — have become the true engines of growth and transformation. Written as an early call to rethink decades-old paradigms, the book argues we live in a project economy where adaptability, cross-disciplinary teams, and strategic execution define success. It sets the stage for later work on the Project Canvas and the HBR Handbook, by diagnosing problems and proposing a systemic shift in mindset for organizations and leaders alike.

lead successful projects

Lead Successful Projects (2019)

What separates successful initiatives from ones that stall or fail?

This book breaks down the core principles and practices that high-impact project leaders use to deliver results consistently. Written for emerging and experienced practitioners alike, it goes beyond templates and timelines to explore leadership, stakeholder engagement, and decision discipline. It bridges the gap between execution skill and strategic relevance — a theme I continued to deepen in subsequent books focused on enterprise-wide delivery.

The Focused Organization

The Focused Organization (2014)

How can companies cut through complexity to achieve their most important goals?

This early work tackles the perennial challenge of organizational attention — why companies fail to focus on what truly matters and how that diffuses results. It presents frameworks for prioritization, alignment, and clarity that directly influenced later thinking on project prioritization and the project economy. Serving as a foundation for later books, it highlights focus as the precursor to execution excellence.

AYUDAS Y SUBVENCIONES DE LA UNION EUROPEA PARA LAS ONG

Ayudas y subvenciones de la Unión Europea para las ONG (2010)

Ever felt overwhelmed by the complexity of EU funding and support mechanisms?

This practical guide was written to demystify European Union grants for NGOs, offering clear pathways to identify, apply for, and manage funding opportunities. Although different in subject from my other books, it reflects my commitment to making complex systems understandable and actionable — a thread that runs through all my work

Your Reading Path: Choose Your Journey

This visual guide outlines two distinct ways to navigate the author’s body of work on leadership, transformation, and the project economy, depending on your current needs:

Your Reading Path Choose Your Journey

Path 1: The Executive Route (Top-Down)

  • Best for: Leaders and Executives facing immediate complex challenges.
  • The Flow: Starts with the future state (Powered by Projects), defining the new operating model for organizations. It then moves downward into execution strategies, practical frameworks, and finally, the foundational roots of focus.

Path 2: The Foundational Route (Bottom-Up)

  • Best for: Practitioners and students wanting to understand the evolution of the field.
  • The Flow: Begins at the roots (The Focused Organization), establishing why focus is critical. It builds upward through the history of the “Project Economy,” practical leadership skills, and finally arrives at the modern organizational strategy.
